Motor Sports

Canadians are truly passionate about motor sports. This is evident as soon as you hit the roads and see the huge trucks with engines of at least 4.5 liter capacity being driven around town. While there is a huge green / enviro movement here there is also a great passion for engines and motor sport. Contradictory maybe, but fact all the same. Though, unlike people driving 4x4’s round the UK, Canadians are often participating in sports and hobbies that really do require the use of something with a little more welly. Heck, just heading to a local lake for a picnic could involve a 20 minute drive down a gravel logging road. So, with the price of gas at about half of what we pay in the UK it is easy to understand why many Britons are attracted to exploring these adrenaline filled sports in BC.

ATV’s (All Terrain Vehicles or Quads) are great for exploring the rugged landscape of this region. A list of clubs and events are listed at www.atvbc.ca and discussion forums, a ride guide and resource directory can be accessed at www.quads.ca

For a bit of everything (snowmobiles, dirt bikes, ATV’s) try www.snowandmud.com for forums and route recommendations. For dirt bikes specifically visit www.bcdirtbikes.com  and for trials biking events and clubs go to www.trialscanada.com.

The snowmobiling community can be found at www.bcsf.org – the website of the BC Snowmobile Federation. There are links, events, safety courses and much more. The government site www.snowmobile.gov.bc.ca also gives guidance on etiquette and conduct, areas available for riding and safety tips.
